President’s Report – 02/03/2016

Hi All

Footy season is upon us and there’s only 299 shopping days left ‘til Christmas.  This Friday sees the Crocs take on North Cairns at Cazaly’s Stadium in the first practice match of the season.  The match starts at 6.30 and we’d love to see as many of you there as possible there.  In fact, while Mum is snapping up some bargains in a pre-Christmas splurge at Cairns Central, Dad could be having a few sherberts whilst critiquing the Crocs new stable of stars.  This Friday also sees the return of the Goose Club to the Barrier Reef Tavern.  If you can’t make it to the game then show your face at the Tavern for a few drinks and a feed.  We’ve got tons of really great prizes and Andy and Mitchy Moo are just chomping at the bit to get the raffles underway again.

Over the last couple of months we’ve managed to entice a number of very talented young men to the Far North and with their inclusion I’m quietly confident of another solid showing in the 2016 CAFL competition.  There may even be some of surprises in the return to the club of a couple of stalwarts together with a number of 2014 premiership players.  Watch this space!!  The most pleasing aspect so far has been the numbers of players on the training track with as many as 35 seen, in what can only be described as horrendous conditions.  As is usual we will also see a number of new recruits arriving in town in the coming weeks leading up to our first game on the 2nd of April.  Also encouraging is the number of younger players stepping up this year.  The likes of Ethan McCullough, Nathan Evans and Ashley Davidson should have break-out years after completing their apprenticeships in 2014 & 2015.

The two weeks prior to Easter will see us play off for the XXXX Cup.  Played over two weekends for some pretty decent prize money we should start to see us field some almost full strength teams.  Please see below the fixture and do your best to get to Cairns and support the lads.

During the off-season the committee has been working overtime to organise, not only the footy side of things but the social side as well.  If you go to the Crocs website you’ll soon see that 2016 will be chocker block full of great social events.  Make a note, get involved and help make the 2016 season the best ever.  To start the ball rolling we’ve got our Season Launch, together with our jumper presentation on the Thursday the 24th of March at the Croc Pit.   Get down for training at 5.30pm and get your 200 Club Membership and become a financial member of the club.  This initial injection of funds into the coffers is vitally important in setting the club up for a successful year.  So please, get to this fun night and meet all the players and remember you don’t have to work the next day.  We’ll also have our new club shirts and club merchandise for sale as well.  Needless to say, Normie and Sous Chef, Robbie will be cooking up a storm.  We may even have some hot-cross buns and some Easter eggs as well.

With regard to the 200 Club membership, we have decided on an increase to $300 for this season.  The extra $50 will be set aside to help pay for the development of facilities to further enhance the value of the 200 Club.  In the not too distant future 200 Club members will have the benefit of reserved undercover seating in one of the prime positions in the complex.  Other initiatives will include TV coverage of the latest AFL game, exclusive 200 Club bar and staff, together with a more up-market selection of wines and spirits.  We feel that over the years the 200 Club has offered terrific value for money but we feel that it is time to up the ante from a service point of view.  Every season we would like to think that we can provide a better experience for those who commit financially to the Club.  I look forward to seeing you on the 24th of March.
