President’s Report. 15/06/16

Hi All,

The last couple of weeks have seen the crocs rise to the top of the CAFL ladder. We seem to have a great mix of youth and experience that often needed to reach the pinnacle which is a premiership.  After last year’s implosion at the end of the season I’m loathed to get too excited about our current ladder position.

This week we take on Cairns Saints in what will be another great confrontation by two of the leagues heavyweights.  We are hoping for a really close and competitive game from two clubs that have the same DNA.  In 1991 the Port Douglas Crocs won the CAFL premiership and at that time was represented by the Westcourt Demons as our reserves team. West court Demons went on to become Cairns Saints. The rest is history.

This Saturday marks the 25th Anniversary of the 1991 premiership success of the Port Douglas Crocs. This was their ever premiership of this mighty club.  Saturday will see the PD Crocs play a mature Westcourt Demons / Cairns Saints in what will be the match of the round.  We have always had a great affinity and respect for Cairns Saints and look forward to having them celebrate this great day with us.

Saturday night, we will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of our 1st premiership at the Port Douglas Community Centre on Mowbray Street and tickets are still available at $50 per head for a 3 course meal and some great entertainment from 7pm.  Please call Andy Smith on 0408 985 372 or David “00” Evans on 0407 730 889 for tickets.  It will be great to see you there and the dress code is STICKILY blue and white.

On a more serious note, there has been a change to our sports training team.  Our longest serving sports trainer, Robyn Frahn, has been replaced by Dave Evans (no relation to “00”).  Robyn has been an outstanding servant of the Port Douglas Football Club over nearly 15 years and the club would like to acknowledge and thank Robyn for her wonderful efforts.  Robyn and husband Corey are life members of the Port Douglas Football Club and their contribution to the club over the years cannot be overstated.
