The 2023 season kicked off with a stand-alone game on Good Friday with the Crocs playing host to North Cairns Tigers Football & Netball Club. We drew a great crowd down at the Croc Pit and the ladies well and truly enjoyed the annual Ladies Day function, which is the first on the event calendar.
The development league had a convincing win in the first game which was a very even spread across the board. Jordan Lawless, Ricky Seal, Sam Ridgeway and Sam Wall lead the charge and all had great games. Our young guns, Brae Agrums and Finn Schreiber also had good games in their first taste of senior football. The boys controlled the game for 100% of game time which saw them run out 53 point winners.
The Seniors had a reasonable start with repeat inside 50s, unfortunately, inaccurate kicking was costly throughout the game. Sam Fairclough was excellent through the midfield but North Cairns were able to bang on a few majors and go into the main break 18 pts in front.
Ex-Adelaide Crows gun and new coach Jared Patrenko pulled the boys in at halftime and reiterated the game plan, going out there and just enjoying our footy. With this saw a momentum change players BJ Kilty, Jacob Zboril and Joel Seden all kicking goals, while Dylan Winton, Brett Kennedy, coach Jared Petrenko and Harvey Moore had a huge impact down back in helping to get the Crocs back in front.
The midfield continued to work hard and get back on top of the clearance battle and see the Crocs extend the lead running out winners by 27 points.
The whole playing group look forward to having a weekend off to get to work and improve in areas needed.
